Things You'll Need:
- All-purpose fertilizer
-
Step 1
Hang fuchsias in an area that receives morning sun, but is sheltered from the strong rays of noontime sun. Fuchsias can tolerate afternoon sun as long as they are shaded during the hottest part of the day.
-
Step 2
Select an area that is sheltered from strong winds; fuchsias can be easily damaged by wind. Shelter from trees or buildings will keep your fuchsias in top condition and provide the protection needed to keep blooms and stems from breaking off.
-
Step 3
Keep the soil evenly moist. Although they can dry slightly between waterings, fuchsias like moist soil and will thrive with regular watering. Check that the pot drains well, as fuchsias suffer if the soil is soggy.
-
Step 4
Fertilize with water-soluble fertilizer every 10 to 14 days following the recommended strength on the container. You may wish to water every week with a solution of one-half strength fertilizer. Either way, fuchsias thrive with adequate fertilizer applied on a regular schedule.
-
Step 5
Deadhead blooms as soon as they have withered and died. The blooms will fall on their own, but a seedpod will be left behind. Pinch the pod from the stem with your fingers to encourage the plant to continue blooming.
