Step 1
Write a paragraph that uses 10 important words from the story that you want the students to remember. Then retype the same paragraph with those words omitted. In their place, put a blank. This is a "cloze" activity sheet that gives students experience selecting, spelling and writing new words correctly.
-
Step 2
Draw a large Venn Diagram on a piece of paper. Label the left circle with the name of one of the characters from the story. Label the right circle with the name of another character or with the name of a real person. Ask the students to compare and contrast the characters by placing similarities between them in the center area that belongs to both of the circles. Tell them to place their differences in the areas of the circles that do not intersect.
-
Step 3
Select five quotations from the story. Type them in the left column of a worksheet. Space the names of the characters who said each quote along the right column of the same sheet. Instruct your students to draw a line across the midline of the paper to connect the quotation with the speaker.
-
Step 4
Draw four large boxes on a worksheet. Place lines on which students can write below each of the boxes. Tell the students to choose their favorite part of the story and to draw it as a cartoon in four parts. They should also write original captions which could be made up of either dialogue or narrative writing. You should also direct the students to give their cartoons original titles before presenting them to the whole class.
