A firetruck is the perfect shape for a birthday cake especially when the candles are lit and blazing with smoke and fire. When you bring this cake out to the table all of the children at the party will be amazed and excited to get their piece. Frost the firetruck birthday cake with red icing trimmed with white. Make the ladders and hoses out of black licorice strings and use Oreo cookies and marshmallow pies to make the wheels.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rectangular cake, already baked
  • Red icing
  • White icing
  • Frosting bag and tips
  • 4 Oreo cookies
  • 4 Marshmallow pies
  • Bag of black licorice- long strings
  • Hard cardboard large enough to support the cake
  • Aluminum foil to cover cardboard
  1. Step 1

Cover the large piece of cardboard with aluminum foil to make a cake plate for your firetruck birthday cake. Cut the rectangular cake in half lengthwise. Use one half of the cake to make the body of the firetruck. Cut the other half in half again to make the cab of your firetruck.

  2. Step 2

Place the body of the firetruck in the middle of the cardboard cake plate before spreading red icing all over it. Mount one of the other pieces in an "L" shape on top of the other one to create the cab. Glue the two pieces together with red icing and use more to cover up any gaps between the body and the cab.

  3. Step 3

Use more red icing to glue two Oreo cookies for the wheels on the right side of the firetruck's cab. Glue two Oreo cookies for the wheels on the left side of the cab. Do the same thing to make the four larger wheels out of Marshmallow pies.

  4. Step 4

Pipe white icing to form the ladders that hang from each side of the firetruck. Write the birthday child's name in white icing on the top of the firetruck which is also where you will place the candle holders, one for each year that the child has been alive.

  5. Step 5

Wind up several strings of black licorice to form hoses. Use red or white icing to glue the hoses to the body of the firetruck. For fun, leave one or more "hoses" of black licorice dangling as if they had been used to put out a fire and needed to be wound back up before the firetruck could leave to go back to the fire station.

Tips & Warnings
  • Give each child at this birthday party a fireman hat bought at a carnival supply store If the pieces of the firetruck need extra support, use toothpicks but count them first to make sure that no one bites one by mistake.
