Things You'll Need:
- Gas powered edger (rent or buy) Gas Oil Watering hose Safety glasses Spade shovel
-
Step 1
Add oil to the edger if you have recently bought it from s store. The rented edgers come with oil, and you just have to supply the gas. Add the oil and gas according to the instructions that accompany the edger.
-
Step 2
Turn on the watering hose and moisten the grass. Pay close attention to the edges. Turn off the water and move the hose out of the way.
-
Step 3
Wear the goggles as you start loosening the lawn's edges. Use a spade to scrape underneath the lawn that is overgrown onto the driveway or sidewalk. This will help loosen the rooted lawn.
-
Step 4
Place the edger blade at the end of the sidewalk or driveway edge. Make sure that the blade is at the edge of the lawn that you loosened with the spade. Start the edger and start walking in a straight line allowing the edger to cut through the lawn.
-
Step 5
Finish edging all areas and pick up the loose and cut lawn--which should come up in long strips--and discard. You will see a straight cut where the lawn meets the sidewalk or driveway.
