How to Make Acid Facial Peels

Acid facial peels done in a medical facility or medical spa use salicylic acid or other chemicals designed to literally "burn" off a layer of the skin.
At home, use fresh, high-enzyme fruits such as pineapple, papaya and lemon juice to produce an acid facial peel that uses the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) in these fruits.
These AHAs will work in much the same way as the chemical counterpart, by "eating" away the topmost layer of the skin. In many commercial skin care products, AHA from fruits are used.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Unscented glycerin soap or
  • Unscented castile liquid soap or
  • Non-soap cleanser: Cetaphil Cleanser
  • Baking soda
  • Pineapple or
  • Papaya, ½ cup mashed
  • 2 Lemons
  • Jojoba oil
  1. Step 1

Tie back your hair with a hairband. Thoroughly cleanse the skin with a gentle glycerin soap, castile liquid soap or a non-soap cleanser such as Cetaphil (or its identical generic).
    Leave your skin slightly moist.

  2. Step 2

Dab a small amount of jojoba oil around the eyes, nose and mouth to protect these sensitive areas from the AHAs, or if you have sensitive skin.

  3. Step 3

Mash one-half cup of fresh pineapple or papaya fruit in a non-reactive ceramic or stainless steel bowl.
Do not substitute frozen or canned fruit.
Add the juice of two lemons, removing any seeds. Combine well.

  4. Step 4

Apply the fruit acid peel to clean skin evenly. Sit or lie back for at least 15 to 25 minutes.
You can apply cooled chamomile tea bags over the eyes to reduce puffiness.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the fruit acid peel off completely.
If you want to boost the effect of your peel, do a quick face scrub. Apply two tablespoons of baking soda mixed with one-quarter cup of filtered water to the skin and gently scrub. Rinse. Moisturize lightly with jojoba oil.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use fruits that you might be allergic to. You can do a simple skin patch test before using the fruits for an acid facial peel.
