Living with a person who is bipolar, more commonly known as manic-depressive, can be very hard. I will tell you how to cope with the love of your life who has bipolar disorder.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Love
  • Patience
  • Care
  • A Plan
  1. Step 1

Noticing the symptoms: If your girlfriend is fast talking, quick thinking with poor judgement, aggressive, depressive, verbally abusive, or suicidal during her depressive stage, sexually acting out, low sex drive, sleeping too much, she may be bipolar. Bipolar disorder effects men and women of all ages. It's a disorder that causes a persons mind to have a sudden mood change. The mood can be aggressive or uplifting but almost, always ends in a depressive stage.

  2. Step 2

Prevention: Preventing your girlfriend from having a maniac episode where she becomes angry or depressed can be a hard task to complete. You have to recognize what causes her to relapse. Stressful situations always causes a bipolar person to get out of control. Social setting where there are a lot of people may cause this. Your girlfriend is worried about what people think about her all the time in some cases. Encourage her when she tells you something she is planning that's good. Bipolar persons need to know they are normal because they are. In some ways all people are bipolar when it comes to sudden mood changes. Bipolar people become displaced with reality and will act out. This causes them to get into trouble with people, the law, and also hurt themselves. Try to keep her in the most comfortable settings. If she has a episode try to calm her down the best way you can and show her all the love you can. Be there for her and reassure her everything is alright.

  3. Step 3

Coping and Treatment: Most bipolar persons have to be on medicine for some or most of their life. Treatment is there to calm to level out their thinking. Counseling is a option to help with your relationship. There is nothing wrong with sticking by the women you love. Love is a beautiful thing and everyone should feel it. Go to counseling with your girlfriend and make sure she is taking her medicine to keep her thoughts from racing. Make sure she has some support while she is dealing with her problem. Show her all the love you can mentally and physically. Go with her to her doctors appointments if possible to see her improvement. See what you and her should work on to prevent a bipolar episode. Talk to her about what makes her happy and sad. Determine what you can do to benefit your situation.

  4. Step 4

Planning for the future: Decide if you and your girlfriend are going to get married or just have a friendship type relationship. Sometimes when a guy finds out his girlfriend is bipolar he keeps himself from getting serious with her or even breaks off the relationship. If you plan on having a future with her, make sure she is going to stay active in preventing her relapse. Be sure she is ready for a relationship mentally and physically. Most bipolar people feel like they are alone because people outcast them for their sometimes uncontrollable behavior. Make a detailed plan on how your relationship will play out. It is not good to have any unexpected issues come up. Talk about as much as possible the issues with you and her. Lastly, good luck at your relationship anyone going through problems with a bipolar spouse. if you love him or her try to stick it out through the thick and thin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try not to yell at your bipolar spouse
  • Encourage them
  • Be careful what kind of settings you expose them to
