Things You'll Need:

  • T.V./ radio
  • quiet room
  • dog crait
  • dog treats
  • tranquilizers (optional)
  1. Step 1

Plan ahead. If you are aware of a storm coming, prepare. Move your dogs crate into a room where it feels safe. If you like, ask your vet about tranquilizers. This will numb the dog and relax it.

  2. Step 2

Once the storm begins, if your dog gets scared, try to calm him/her down. turn up the t.v./radio to block out sound. Play with your dog. If you ignore the noise, it will to. Reward good behavior with dog treats.

  3. Step 3

If your dog still doesn't calm down move it to its crate in its "safe place" keep the t.v./radio close by and comfort your dog.

  4. Step 4

Once the storm ends, show your dog that there was nothing to be scared of. After the dog gets used to storms, you should not have to worry about messes.
