MiniUI replacing WebUI to remotely access uTorrent.

MiniUI is a web interface for uTorrent that was created as an alternative to WebUI for Mobile browsers. If you prefer minimal user interfaces, I highly recommend it.

Even if you prefer uTorrent's WebUI, I'll show you how to install MiniUI alongside WebUI. If you are on the bus, out hiking or just in a classroom dictated by a callous teacher with a strong aversion to laptops (or anything technological for that matter) *takes deep breath* with MiniUI you will be able to fully manage your torrents from your Blackberry!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An internet connection
  • uTorrent with WebUI
  • 7zip
  1. Step 1
    MiniUI's files.

    MiniUI's files.

    Downloading:

Download the MiniUI from Ultima's Google web page (in Resources).

Extract the archived file to a folder called mini. You can use Microsoft Windows for this, but you will need to use 7zip to re-archive webui.zip.

  2. Step 2
    Placing MiniUI within WebUI.

    Placing MiniUI within WebUI.

    Editing Webui.zip:

Now locate webui.zip. It is typically in %APPDATA%/uTorrent, but portable installations keep it wherever utorrent.exe is.

Extract webui.zip to a folder called webui. Place the mini folder into it.

  3. Step 3
    Replacing webui.zip.

    Replacing webui.zip.

    Replacing Webui.zip:

Select all files and folders in the webui folder and archive it back into webui.zip. Right-click on the files, select 7zip => Add to archive. Make sure you select the files within the webui folder, and not the folder itself.

Replace the old webui.zip with this new one.

  4. Step 4
Firefox's address bar with my MiniUI address

    Accessing MiniUI:

I assume you know how to access WebUI. If you don't, see my article on using WebUI securely with SSL encryption.

Start uTorrent and access WebUI. Add "mini/index.html" after ".../gui/" in order to access MiniUI. Due to the nature of uTorrent's Web API, index.html must be present after /mini/.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use MiniUI as WebUI by simply replacing webui.zip with the archive you downloaded in Step 1.
