If you reside close to a wooded area then there is a high possibility that ticks are living in your yard. One tick bite is enough to take the fun out of summer activities. Here are some tips on how to repel ticks from your yard.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lawn mower
  • Gravel path
  • Light color clothing
  • Yard Clean-up
  • Commercial pest control
  1. Step 1

Cut your lawn short. The shorter the better, when your grass is long it becomes a campground for ticks.

  2. Step 2

Plant trees, shrubs and flowerbeds away from high traffic areas in your yard. If your yard does have ticks, they will be hiding in the vegetation.

  3. Step 3

Install a two-foot gravel path around your flowerbeds, trees and shrubs. This gravel path will prevent the ticks from crossing over into the high traffic areas of your yard.

  4. Step 4

Remove all leaf debris in the fall. If the leaves are left until spring you will have an over population of ticks, snakes and borers.

  5. Step 5

Discourage wildlife from visiting your yard. Deer and raccoons are carriers of ticks.

  6. Step 6

Contact a commercial pest control service; make an appointment for your yard to sprayed. In order to eliminate an infestation of ticks have your yard serviced in the spring and the fall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear light colored clothing when outside, this will enable you to see the tick crawling on you.
  • Apply a pest repellent such as Deet, spray on your clothing. Avoid getting the chemical on your skin.
