How to Treat a Poison Ivy Rash

Poison Ivy is a plant that can be found in many locations, ranging from the forest to the middle of your backyard. When touched, the poison ivy causes a painful rash that can easily spread. However, the poison ivy can be eliminated quickly if it is treated correctly. Here is how to treat a poison ivy rash.

   The first step is to immediately wash the effected area with water alone. Do not use soap as this will move the irritating chemical found in the poison ivy across your skin. Make sure that you are not near anybody else so that the poison ivy will not spread to them.

   Wait 10 minutes and then wash the affected area again with both soap and water. Dispose of the soap as soon as you finish washing to make sure that it will not spread the poison ivy to anybody else
