How to fold an American flag into a triangle

For the fourth of July, or for celebrating any occasion, it is good for you to know how to correctly and respectfully fold an American flag.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • an American flag
  • two or more people (to help fold the flag)
  1. Step 1

    Begin by holding the American flag waist-high with another person (or other people) so that the surface of the American flag is then parallel to the ground.

  2. Step 2

    Next, you fold the American flag in half, hot-dog-style.

  3. Step 3
    second fold

    Third, you fold the American flag again the same way as you did in step two.

  4. Step 4
     

    Now, begin folding at the striped end of the flag. Fold one corner into the opposite side of the American flag, so that it then forms a triangle.

  5. Step 5
     

    You now need to repeat the above step repeatedly until only a small strip of the star area on the American flag shows.

    Finally, carefully tuck the last strip of the American flag into the triangle. You have now finished the folding process and you now have a perfect folded triangle of the American flag.

Tips & Warnings
  • When doing this process of folding the American flag, you have to keep the flag from touching the ground while you are folding it. When you make the two hot-dog-style folds, you need to be sure to keep the stars on the American flag on the outside, so that if you do this, you will have a triangular area of stars when you are finished folding your American flag.
