Desktop wallpaper is the background you see when you first start up your computer. It can be anything from family photos to classical works of art or homemade doodles. Follow this guide if you would like to change desktop wallpaper and you are running Windows XP.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hover your mouse over your current desktop wallpaper.

  2. Step 2

Right click the mouse and scroll down all the way. Left click the word properties.

  3. Step 3

Under display properties choose the desktop tab.

  4. Step 4

Underneath the word background you will find a list of options. Initially this list is full of works of art and photographs that come preloaded onto the computer. Look through them and choose the desktop wallpaper you prefer. If you find a good one, highlight it with your cursor and then click apply and then OK.

  5. Step 5

If the desktop wallpaper you want is not listed on the menu, click browse instead. This brings up an explorer window. Locate the physical location of the desired picture and select it. Then click apply, then click OK. If you could not find a good one on your hard drive then simply browse the web. There are many great free dekstop wallpaper downloads on the internet.
