How to Catch Big Bass using Live Bait

This article is designed to teach you how to use live bait to catch bass. I am a huge fisherman and actually prefer using live bait to catch bass because it yields more action and quicker strikes.

Things You'll Need

• Lake
• Bass
• Leeches
• Worms
• Crappie Minnows
• Fishing Pole
• Sharp Hooks

Instructions

1. There are three types of live bait that I love to fish bass with. On any given day one can work better than the others. Following these techniques will yield you lots of large bass and a lot of fun!

   Now we head out to our favorite stump field or place along the shoreline with trees in the water. During the heat of summer this works on drop offs and sunken islands out in deeper water.

3. 

   The first thing to try is a night crawler. These work remarkable for bass. Hook a crawler on the hook so it is hanging off the end. The way a bass eats the prey it will start from the back and often suck the whole long worm in. Cast this out and use a very slow retrieval method so the bass thinks it is crawling along the bottom of the lake. When you feel the bite set the hook and have fun.

   This is how you would use a leech. Take your hook and hook a leech onto the jig right through the middle of the sucker. Then cast it out and slowly retrieve so it never hits the bottom. Make sure to hold on tight as the bass can not resist a good leech.

5. 

   The last thing to try is a crappie minnow. Believe it or not bass love crappie minnows because they are shiney. Hook the minnow from the chin through to where the front of the brain would be and you are set. I try not to hit the brain or it kills our minnow and we lose our action. Then cast out the minnow and retrieve at the speed that a minnow would swim when it sees a bass. The second the bass hits, set the hook and reel in your big bass.
