Sterling silver is an affordable type of authentic metal. It is not as cheap in quality as a base metal. However, it is not as expensive as gold or platinum. Sterling silver is popular type of jewelry, especially stamped sterling silver jewelry. Silver stamped with letters or a symbol adds customization to the piece of jewelry, making it more personal. With the proper tools, you can create your own stamped sterling silver jewelry.

  • Sterling silver sheet metal Sheet metal shears File Steel block Stamps Ball-peen hammer Silver chain

    How to Make Stamped Silver Jewelry

  1. Step 1

    Cut the silver sheet metal to the desired length and width using sheet metal shears.

  2. Step 2

    File the edges of the sterling silver sheet until they are smooth and even.

  3. Step 3

    Place the silver sheet on a steel block.

  4. Step 4

    Arrange the stamps on the sheet of silver as you would like them to appear.

  5. Step 5

    Stamp your design into the silver sheet by hammering the stamps with the ball-peen hammer.

  6. Step 6

    Use the ball-peen hammer to punch a hole completely through the top of the stamped silver to string it onto a silver chain and create a necklace.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create necklaces, anklets and rings by cutting the sheet metal in measurement to the corresponding body part and forming the metal over a mandrel using a plastic mallet.
  • Make sure the stamped letters or figures are positioned correctly before you begin stamping them as stamped metal cannot be reversed.
