One of the best ways to do invoices for your business is to create them yourself, customized for your business, then turn them into templates so you can make changes yourself as your business changes. Instructions

    • 1

Open Microsoft Word and select "New" from the "File" menu. Choose "Template." Browse the selection of templates provided by Word and select the one that comes closest to the template you need to make.

    • 2

Modify the template to suit the needs of your business. If the template you have selected will serve your needs, simply highlight the template text, delete it, and type in your custom text.

    • 3

Go to the "Font" formatting features in Word to choose the font style, size and color of the font in your layout. If the font in the template works for your invoice, you can leave it the way it is. If you want to change any of the font elements, select the text you want to change and click the appropriate choices.

Save your custom invoice template using a name other than the one provided by Word or you will overwrite the original. To ensure that you save your document as a template you can use later on, go to the "File" menu, choose "Save As" and select the "Template" option from the drop-down menu.
