How to Maintain a Horizon Treadmill

Horizon Fitness is a manufacturer of numerous types of fitness equipment. Along with treadmills, the company produces elliptical trainers, stationery exercise bikes and ascent trainers. Popular models of Horizon treadmills include the T1201, T700, T800, CT 5.0 and the Evolve. Although you should refer to your owner's manual for model specific maintenance tips, there are some general guidelines you can follow to care for your treadmill.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the treadmill after each use. Unplug the unit and use a damp rag to wipe down the treadmill. Avoid using cleaning products since they can damage the treadmill. Parts that should be cleaned after every use include the belt, deck, covers and console. Allow the parts to air dry.

    • 2

Inspect the tension and alignment of the Horizon treadmill belt. Make sure you don't see any damage and that the alignment hasn't been thrown off during use. You should perform this maintenance step at least a couple of times a week after regular use.

    • 3

Fold up the Horizon treadmill. If your treadmill model has the ability to fold up, you should fold it up to clean beneath it at least once a week. Unplug the treadmill and then use a vacuum hose attachment to remove any dirt and dust that have accumulate under the unit.

    • 4

Remove the motor cover in order to clean the motor on a monthly basis. Use a dry cloth to dust off the motor and surrounding areas. Replace the motor cover once you are finished.

    • 5

Lubricate the Horizon treadmill every six months or every 150 miles of use per the manufacturer's recommendations. Horizon treadmills with a digital display will show the message "LUBE" when you are due. Order Horizon Fitness lubricant from the company and apply it to the belt after you have loosened the rear belt bolts. Make sure the unit is unplugged during the lubrication process.
