Step 1
Check for fleas:
First check your home and pet for fleas. Many dogs are allergic to fleas, in fact flea allergy is the most common reason for a dogs itchy skin. If you find that fleas are the problem you might try using a gentle natural cure like Neem oil on your pet. -
Step 2
Try a change in diet:
If you suspect that the itching problems may be caused by an allergy then a change in diet may be in order. Your dogs allergies may be caused by a grain allergy, 80 percent of dogs with allergies have this allergy. -
Step 3
Check for a yeast infection:
If a yeast infection (candida) is causing the problem you will need to switch your dog to a grain and potato free diet. A pet with a yeast infection will smell musty and may also have a cream like substance in it's ears and between the toes. Dogs by nature are carnivores so feeding them a diet that contains grains can upset the natural balance of their body and cause a yeast infection(candida)to develop. -
Step 4
Relieve the itch:
Try to relieve the itch will this simple rinse. Just mix together 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to a gallon of water and pour over your dog from the neck down, taking care to not get it into his face and then gently dry him off. -
Step 5
Don't use oatmeal:
If your dog has a food allergy or has problems with yeast then oatmeal is probably the last thing that you would want to put on him. For one thing if your dog is allergic to grains it doesn't make much sense to smear one all over him. And for another oatmeal is a carbohydrate and will only serve to feed the yeast.
