Handmade dishcloths can add a decorative or whimsical touch to your kitchen. The knit or crochet cloths are nice gifts to give or receive. Patterns can be found in books, magazines and at free online sources. Handmade dishcloths can be made in a variety of shapes, colors and stitch patterns. There are dishcloth patterns for holidays, themes and personal styles. Even novice knitters or crocheters can easily make dishcloths.

Things You'll Need:

  • Pattern Cotton yarn Crochet hook Knitting needle Darning needle
  1. Step 1

    Select a knit or crochet pattern for your dishcloth project.

  2. Step 2

    Purchase cotton yarn that is produced specifically for making dishcloths. Cotton yarns can be found at stores that sell craft and yarn products.

  3. Step 3

    Read the pattern thoroughly before you begin the project.

  4. Step 4

    Crochet or knit the dishcloth according to the pattern. Be sure to keep a stitch count after each row that is made to ensure that the dishcloth will be even.

  5. Step 5

    Fasten off at the end of the project if knitting or crocheting. Cut the yarn. Thread the yarn end on to a darning needle. Use the needle to weave the yarn into the dishcloth to hide it.
