How to Install a Car Radio in a Grand Prix

A new car radio in your Grand Prix might be needed if your old radio is faulty. Typically, a factory radio is concerned with all-around good sound. However, many aftermarket radio manufacturers design their car radio equipment for higher performance than what the factory model can handle. If you have removed the radio in your Pontiac, and want to replace it with another one, it is not extremely difficult provided you carefully follow a series of steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the factory electrical connectors where the old radio was located.

    • 2

Plug the electrical connectors into the back of the new radio.

    • 3

Slide the new radio into the dash.

    • 4

Line up the mounting brackets for the radio brackets in the dash. Insert and tighten the screws that hold the new radio in place.

    • 5

Plug in the wiring for the hazard switch and mount the dash trim over the stereo controls.

    • 6

Insert and tighten the screws that hold the dash trim to the dash. There are two screws under the panel on the driver's side panel, three under the dash, one on either side of the steering column, and one near the trim that covers the stereo.

Mount the glove box and insert the screws that hold it in place in this order: one screw in the bottom left corner of the glove box, two under the glove box, four inside the glove box, and finally, two under the side panel on the passenger side.

Replace the two panels on either side of the dash. Several retaining clips need to snap into place before the panel is secure.
