How to Email Soldiers in Iraq

Contacting a loved one or friend who is serving in Iraq for the U.S. government is a simple to do thanks to several organizations that help with contacting troops, and also with the help of social networks like Facebook. If you don't know the email address of the soldier in Iraq you're wanting to contact, you will need to do some searching online through various resources. When searching, make sure you have any information regarding the soldier, like military ID or what group he or she is stationed with, readily available.

Instructions

    • 1

Try contacting the soldier using a social media site or to obtain an email address. Go to the U.S. Army's official webpage and click on the "All Army Social Media" option on the right-hand side of the screen (see Resources).

    • 2

Determine which service, battalion, division or reserve the soldier is stationed with and click on it to see the Facebook page for that division. You'll need a Facebook account to make further contact. Click on the "Message" option and ask to acquire the email address of the soldier you want to email. Also on the main Facebook page for the troops, you'll see more contact information that you can use to find the email address.

    • 3

Go to the U.S. Armed Forces News Service website for more options for finding and emailing a soldier in Iraq (see References). Scroll down the page to find links to "Locate a Loved One" and "Send Email Messages to the Troops." You'll need the soldier's first and last name, rank and Social Security number.

    • 4

Try mailing the branch, if the previous options don't work, at the addresses located at the bottom of the page to request the soldier's email address. You will need to verify your relation to the soldier and why you need to contact him.

    • 5

Email the soldier once you have their address from a email account that you trust, like a student account or personal account that is rights protected. The email address you receive should have "@us.army.mil" at the end of it. The bases in Iraq have Internet cafes where the soldier can access his email. Be patient, and you should be in contact with the soldier you were looking for.
