Things You'll Need:
- Newspaper Joke Book Funny Photos Comedy Movies Movie Tickets
-
Step 1
Set aside a certain time everyday to laugh. Make it a priority to laugh each day
-
Step 2
Read the cartoon section in the daily newspaper when you wake up. Laughing at the cartoon strips will help set the tone for the rest of the day. You'll be in a much better mood the rest of the day if you can forget your pain for a few moments as soon as you wake up.
-
Step 3
Flip through a joke book for at least 10 minutes. Once you start to smile, don't stop. Maintain your smile as long as possible. Smiling can cheer you up and make you feel more optimistic about your situation.
-
Step 4
Look at funny photos and notice all of the details. Notice the shades of colors and the lines that make up the photo. This exercise is yet another diversion for the mind. As you concentrate on the funny things that are happening in the picture, the pain will seem as though it is fading away.
-
Step 5
Rent comedy movies or watch a comedy show. Or watch a comedian on television. Watching a funny show that you enjoy will help to prevent depression and negative thinking.
-
Step 6
Check out the posters at your local theatre. Buy a ticket as soon as you see a funny poster, regardless of how silly the poster looks. As you watch the movie, you will be surrounded with laughter and you will start laughing right along with the rest of the audience. It will be hard to focus on the pain when you are immersed with people laughing and having a good time.
-
Step 7
Look for something funny in the situations that occur each day. Once you actively begin looking for humorous things, then you will have a constant dose of laughter from absurd, stupid or silly things going on right in front of your eyes.
