How to Tie Snelled Hooks
Tying a snelled hook, or snelling, is a method of attaching a fishing line or leader to a fish hook. It is particularly effective when dealing with salt water line and hooks. Snelled hooks are more durable than hooks tied with other fishing knots, and may be as much as 40 percent stronger than other knots.
Instructions

1
Pass the tag or free end of the line through the eye of the hook. Position the hook so that the line enters the front or point side of the hook. Pull the line through the eye so that about 1 inch of line extends through.
-
2
Hold the loose end of the line flush against the straight part or shank of the hook. Wrap the main line six or seven times around the shank and free end.
-
-
3
Pass the main line back through the eye of the hook and slightly moisten the snell.
-
4
Pull the snell knot tight, making small adjustments to ensure the wraps do not release before the knot is pulled tight.
-
5
Trim any excess line from the bottom portion or below the snell knot.

Tips & Warnings
Look for the hook to curl upward slightly as a sign that the hook has been snelled correctly.
Handle hooks with caution. Use care when pulling mono-filament lines tight to avoid cuts.
