If you want to make an object that you can mount on a display board for a child's project, or you just need a quick diversion, try making a mini car out of paper. This origami project is fairly simple to fold, although it does take some practice. For the experienced paper folder it takes less than a minute from start to finish. Once you've gotten the hang of it, you can make an entire fleet of cars for a race. Just note that the wheels do not actually move.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Standard sheet of origami paper Pencil Ruler
  1. Step 1

Lay your origami paper on the table, printed side down. Fold your sheet of origami paper exactly in half, taking the top edge and folding it to meet the bottom edge. Fold it widthwise in a similar manner. Open out both folds so you end up with a grid of four squares.

  2. Step 2

Fold the bottom edge up to meet the crease line from your first fold. Crease and leave this fold in. With your ruler as a guide draw a straight pencil line from the midpoint of the crease from the first fold to the lower left corner. Draw a second line from the midpoint to the bottom right corner.

  3. Step 3

Fold down the part of the paper that is printed side up, the left half on the first line you drew in Step 2 and the right half on the second line. You will now have two white triangles and one smaller printed triangle between them. The bottoms of the white triangles will be your car's wheels.

  4. Step 4

Fold the paper down at the original crease line from Step 1. Now you can only see the printed side of the paper. Measure 1/2 inch down from what is now the top edge of the paper and draw a horizontal line. Fold the paper away from you at this line. Crease. Now you can see mostly white again.

  5. Step 5

Concentrate only on the white rectangle at the top of your paper for this step. Note the crease line in its center. Draw a diagonal line from the bottom right of the rectangle to the top of this crease line. Fold the top right corner of the paper toward you and to the left on this line.

  6. Step 6

Flip your paper over so the side you were looking at in Step 5 is now the side touching the table. You will see that you have your car. Fold the top right corner down and back if you would like to adjust the shape, depending on the make and model of car you'd like to represent.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can draw windows, doors and other accessories on your car and trim the points of the wheels to make them appear more round if you wish.
