How to Use Avidemux to Convert to Mpeg
Avidemux is video editing software that can be used to do some simple file conversions. Avidemux is free software and works on Mac, Linux, Windows and BSD. With Avidemux, you can take video files in a variety of formats, including AVI and MP4, and convert them to MPEG files that you can do other things with. You can even edit the files if you wish. Avidemux is easy to use and can quickly convert your video files while you wait.

Pull up a web browser on your computer. Go to the Avidemux website (see Resources).

Download and install Avidemux to your computer if you do not already have it on there. Avidemux is freeware, so you do not have to pay for it.

Click on the "Open" button on the toolbar. Select the video file that you want to convert to MPEG.

Locate the pull-down menu by "Format." Click it to open it up and select MPEG as your file format.

Select the "File" menu. Click on "Save" and then "Save Video" to save your video file as an MPEG. Once the conversion is complete and the new MPEG file has saved to your computer you can close Avidemux and begin using the new MPEG as you like.

I just got avidemux on my computer. And am trying to convert a avi to mpeg. But when I follow the directions given on how to do it. I get an unknown file extension called 'idx'. Can someone assist me please?? And thanks in advance... -
