How to Determine the Firmware of a DVD Drive

It important to know the firmware version of your DVD or CD drive to know if your drive is up to date and compatible with your software; however, in Windows XP and Vista this can be a bit difficult. Thankfully, there is a tool that will allow you to easily check the firmware version of any of your DVD or CD drives. The tool is from Nero, and is a free download with a 30-day trial. Using this tool, you can discover a lot of other information about your drives, like write speed and data transfer rate.

Instructions

      Download Opti Drive Control (see "Additional Resources," below).

      Install Opti Drive Control, then click "Continue" (to use the 30-day free trial) when you get to the registration screen.

      Click the down arrow next to the "Drive:" selector, then choose the drive of which you want to determine the firmware.

      Click the "Drive Info" bar.

    • 5

      Look under the "General" section and you will see the firmware version of you drive.
