Wear batting gloves for protection and grip when swinging baseball or softball bats. Quality batting gloves are made of thin leather with stretch fabric on the seams. The leather aids in grip control while protecting fingers and palms against blistering while holding the bat. The stretch fabric provides flexibility for clenching in tight fitting gloves. Batting gloves also protect a runner's hands when sliding.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Batting gloves Baseball or softball bat Batting helmet
  1. Step 1

Try them on. Slip the fingers of one hand into a batting glove. Pull the wrist cuff firmly toward the elbow until your fingertips reach the ends of the gloves. Open the hook and loop seal on the wrist strap. Pull the strap taught around your wrist and hold the tension while fastening the hook and loop seal. Put the other glove on in the same fashion.

  2. Step 2

Shop for the right fit. Visit a sporting goods store and try on a few different sizes. A good fit will tightly wrap your fingers without leaving excess over the tips or pulling the palm section up over the knuckles. When you find a good fit, keep the glove on for at least five minutes to be sure it doesn't cause your hand to throb.

  3. Step 3

Test the grip. Pick up a bat and grip the handle. Swing the bat repeatedly to see how the grip aids control.

  4. Step 4

Wear batting gloves and a batting helmet for offensive practice and competition. Keep the gloves on for baserunning to protect hands during slides.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your batting gloves in good condition by wearing them for offensive play only. Batting gloves are not intended, or allowed by most leagues, for defensive play.
  • Avoid wearing batting gloves for any other activities.
