Step 1
Ask your local Parks and Recreation Department if they offer scolarships for summer classes, like martial arts, swimming, pottery and other art classes. If they don't offer scolarships, they might offer discounts based on income.
-
Step 2
Plan your outings around free activities, like parades, classic car Rod Runs, sand castle competitions, and other community activities. Bring a sack lunch and have a "picnic".
-
Step 3
Spend time in the outdoors as a family. Camping, hiking, beachcombing and spending the afternoon at the lake can all be frugal activities, if you pack inexpensive food, and if you don't have too far to drive.
-
Step 4
Save money by having fun at home. A small pool in the yard, water baloons, sprinklers, hide and seek, the basics are always fun during the summer. As long as they're laughing, they're having fun, it isn't a matter of how much money you spend.

on 7/13/2009 Some great ideas here! In my area, they play FREE older kid's movies on Tuesday mornings at the movie theater! I noticed that sometimes you can also get free trial classes for gymnastics or martial arts. I say pack the cooler w/ PB and J and head to the playground! Get those kids away from the TV!
