Look Like a Pro Ordering a Martini for the First Time

Everyone’s ordering their drink and your next… If it’s your first time out you may not know all the different drinks available, but you have probably heard of a martini. A martini, by name, conveys maturity and sophistication. Not knowing how to order the martini will be the next conversational topic among your friends. To avoid that awkward discussion, here’s what you do.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Be relaxed
  • Be confident
  1. Step 1

Decide what type of liquor you prefer. A martini can be “Vodka” or “Gin” and you can just state the brand of liquor when ordering such as a “Grey Goose” martini for vodka or a “Tanqueray” martini for gin. There are several other brands of liquor that you can choose from. If you are not prepared to give this information to the person who is taking your order, they will ask you.

  2. Step 2

Provide how the Martini should be served. You can choose from “Shaken” which is liquor and ice that is shaken together and then poured into the martini glass. “Stirred” which is liquor and ice that is stirred together with a straw and then poured into the martini glass. “On the rocks” which is liquor poured into the martini glass filled with ice. Or “Straight Up” which is liquor poured into the martini glass. Choose only one.

  3. Step 3

Add your personal taste preference. You can choose “Dirty” and three olives will be added. “Extra dirty” and olive juice will be added. You can also decide if you want your martini to be sweetened or made bitter with these additional terms. “Sweet”, this is adding a sweetened fortified wine known as “Vermouth”. “Extra Sweet”, this is adding more Vermouth. “Dry”, this is adding a bitter fortified wine known as “Dry Vermouth”. And “Extra Dry”, this is adding more Dry Vermouth.

  4. Step 4

Don’t poke a hole through your own paper thin armor! Now that you have ordered your first martini, you don’t want to show the people you are with your true clueless nature of ordering a martini. So when the drink arrives, slowly lift your glass and take a sip. Do not cough, gag, choke, or spit and slowly place your glass back on the table. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Select "Shaken" for a vodka martini
