Step 1
Look for a good pasta machine. You will want a stainless steel machine. Don't get a plastic one for working with polymer clay, and don't buy a cheaply made metal machine. You need a really good pasta machine that's going to hold up well, and that's relatively easy to clean. Purchase a pasta machine anywhere where quality cooking equipment is sold. Never use a machine for cooking that you've used for your polymer clay.

Step 2
Decide what type of work you want to be doing before you decide on which types of polymer clay to buy. If you're going to be doing non-doll sculpture, like animals or miniature food, you'll want to use something like Sculpey, which is easy to work with, or Fimo, wich isn't so easy but seems to hold up better. For dolls, you will want to stick with the best, which is Prosculpt. There are a variety of specialty clays, like metallics and pearls, for all different types of projects.

Step 3
Buy your polymer clay and supplies on line, at art stores, craft stores, and even some department stores like Fred Meyer. I've gotten plenty of my polymer clay supplies for less money on Ebay.
