Working with polymer clay is fun to do, but learning new techniques, especially with sculpting, can be challenging.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn new polymer clay techniques by taking classes. If you're lucky enough to have someone who teaches classes in your area, take advantage of the hands-on training, it's the best way to learn how to work with polymer clay. You should also look into shorter "workshops" that last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of weeks.

  2. Step 2

Buy or rent videos. This is the second best way to learn new polymer clay techniques. Jack Johnston has some really good videos on sculpting lifelike dolls, but there are videos available for all types of techniques, from caning to beads to faux work.

  3. Step 3

Find free tutorials on the Internet. Polymerclaycentral.com and Patriciarosestudios.com both have really good photo tutorials, with plainly laid out steps on their websites. PC Central has more beading, canework, faux work, and basic skills tutorials, while Patricia Rose's tutorials are focused on life-like dolls.
