Things You'll Need:
- Bug Spray
- Long Sleeve Clothing
-
Step 1
The easiest thing to do to avoid bites is to wear protective clothing. You don’t have to wear a mosquito net everywhere, a long sleeve shirt and long pants will do. If you know you are in an area with lots of mosquitoes, tuck in your shirt, and tuck your pant legs into your socks. A Hat can also help protect your head.

Step 2
Recent studies actually show that mosquitoes are most attracted to sweat and smelly feet (seems like an odd combination, right?). It's true. Start sweating and experience all the bugs that now want you for dinner. The best way to avoid unneccessary sweating is to dress appropriately. Wear layers that you can shed or add on if you become too hot or cold.

Step 3
Use bug spray with a high DEET content. Usually bug spay with 40 percent or more works best, as other varieties are too watered down and may not be as effective. (You can purchase this bug spray at most stores). Generously spray any areas of the body that are vulnerable. Your ankles, neck, and arms are especially appealing to mosquitoes.
Lotions and Gels are also available as a substitute for spray. -
Step 4
You may also want to treat your clothes with Permethrin, it works similar to DEET, but should not come in contact with skin. Make sure to spray often as directed by the bottle or container. In most cases it is necessary to re-apply every few hours.

Step 5
Finally, stay out of areas where mosquitoes thrive. Mosquitoes, and many other bugs are attracted to wet and swampy areas with water. In these areas you are at a higher risk to infections. Stagnant water such as ponds are especially dangerous because the unclean water only increases the chances of infection with a mosquito bite. Wherever possible try to avoid these areas.
