How to Be Peaceful

It takes a spiritually grounded and centered individual to be at peace in the midst of a storm. A storm is not a slight quandary like, “Oh, what am I going to wear today?” A storm is more like one of those ethically induced morally sound decisions one must make knowing that a lot rides on his or her decisions. That is why it is important to be at peace, and let a force higher than yourself guide your decision-making.

Things You'll Need:

  • Prayer
  • Meditation
  • God’s Word
  1. Step 1

Pray – Praying is a way of talking out a tough situation to a force higher than oneself. Some pray to God, some to Jesus, some to statues that represent their belief in a spiritual power or Creator. It is important to pray candidly and specifically especially if one is asking for something to happen in his/her life. Praying also centers an individual and allows him/her to seek to do the right thing in as many situations as possible.

  2. Step 2

Meditate – Clear your mind. Clearing one’s mind of negative, extraneous thoughts is a way of achieving peace. The brain is a literal file cabinet, and just like a file cabinet sometimes it can get overloaded and full of extra junk that may need to be cleaned out. The mind works similarly with sometimes holding onto old baggage that needs to be released or with thoughts of things to do at work or upcoming events. Sometimes those thoughts need to be purged from the mind, and meditation is the way to do so. Get in a clean, comfortable, and quiet place, close your eyes, and concentrate heavily on something that makes you happy or makes you feel blessed and tranquil.

  3. Step 3

Read God’s Word – It contains something for everyone and every situation. A spiritual reading is a way to make sense of worldly things as they occur. A familiar Biblical passage summarily states “to lean not unto thine own understanding.” This passage makes perfect sense because if we as average beings try to make sense of everything that goes on in this world, we may come up short of answers. It seems that when an innocent person is killed, or a good person loses his or job, or someone is framed for something that he/she clearly did not do, we can make no sense of it. Reading God’s word assists us with making sense of the senseless.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pray and seek to do the right thing.
  • Meditate in order to clear your mind.
  • Read a spiritually charged passage daily.
