Dogs love to run, play, hide, and jump, however in an apartment they are limited to the things they can and can not do. This article will show you how to keep your puppies happy even in an apartment setting.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Puppy
  • Time
  • Apartment
  1. Step 1

Exercise! This is the most important aspect of any dogs life. You want to make sure that you and your dog are getting the quality time and exercise you need to be happy. Actually taking a fifteen minute walk with your puppy will help keep them calm inside the house and make them easier to train.

  2. Step 2
    Sitting & Staying

    Sitting & Staying

Training! This is another important part of living with a puppy in an apartment. Teaching your dog to sit and stay is great, but teaching them not to eat harmful things is vital. Teaching your dog that certain rooms are off limits and monitoring their progress will take time but it will keep you from coming home to a 200 dollar disaster! Training also helps stimulate the mind which will make your dog a lot happier.

  3. Step 3

Trust. Many people don't understand just how intelligent their dogs can be. Dogs have a lot of instincts that allow them to understand us in a way that no other animal can, but you must learn to understand them. Learn about their breed and the types of things that keep them happy. Some dogs are just naturally more lazy than others and won't have a problem just laying around the house alone.

  4. Step 4
    Tug O War

Playing. This is the most fun and important part of the process. Keeping your puppy happy is going to keep your valuables un chewed. You want to make sure that this is a great bonding tool that allows your puppy to get used to human interaction in a positive way. Tug-o-war and wrestling are great ways to tire your puppy out while having a good time yourself.

  5. Step 5
    Sleepin

Space. Have a space that is designated for your puppy that is not in your general area. This means that on the couch, under the bed, or under the computer desk, won't cut it. They need a place to go when they are tired or scared. This helps your puppy understand boundaries while still feeling like a part of the family. A nice kennel or crate is a great way to do this.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have a lot of treats and toys on hand.
  • No-bite Spray is a great to keep them from chewing your valuables.
  • Close doors to bathrooms and kitchens to keep them out of chemicals.
  • Do not punish your puppy for things he/she did while you were away. (They don't understand or remember)!
  • Keep your puppy well fed and watered!
  • Dog proof your house just as you would baby proof it!
