Things You'll Need:
- Top sirloin
- baggies or seal-a-meal
- knife
-
Step 1
Top Sirloin on platterThe top sirloin pictured here is 13 pounds. You can get the same amount or smaller or larger, it will all cut up the same. Take the meat out of the package and put it on a tray or cutting board. There will be leakage.
-
Step 2
Slicing fat offStart by removing the excess fat on the meat. Some spots it will be very thick and you don't need it. Slice it off a bit at a time and you don't have to remove it completely.
-
Step 3
Slicing RoastNow you are ready to cut your roast. Measure roughly 2 inches and cut down through the meat. This will leave a nice roast big enough for 3-4 people with little to no left-overs. If you have a larger family then add another inch.
-
Step 4
Putting into baggiePut your roast into a large baggie and remove as much air as you can before sealing the end or put it in a seal-a-meal baggie and seal it shut, the machine takes out the air for you.
-
Step 5
Slicing steaksWhen you have enough roasts you can start cutting for steaks. Continue to slice the same way, but make the cuts thinner, approximately 1/2 inch thick and then bag them up.
-
Step 6
Ready for the freezerMark all your meat with the type and date and put in freezer. It can take an hour to do this process but once it is done and you realize the savings, you will start buying meat in bulk. This cut yielded 5 roasts and 3 steaks. You will see a significant savings over already prepackaged meat.
