This is a quick and easy recipe that makes a rich caramel flavored frosting. It is a great topping for many different cake flavors. Try it on white, chocolate or apple cake.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 c light brown sugar
  • 1/2 c dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 c milk
  • 2 c sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  1. Step 1

First, melt the butter in a saucepan on low heat. Once melted, add the brown sugars and turn up the heat to medium. Stir until the sugar mixture comes to a boil. Then add the milk and bring back to a boil.

  2. Step 2

Once the mixture boils, remove from the stove. Slowly add the powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing by hand. Continue to stir until the frosting is smooth and without lumps. Try to move quickly as the frosting will set as it cools.

  3. Step 3

You want to use your frosting while it is still warm because if you don't it will harden and you will be unable to spread it. If you are frosting and it gets too hard to spread, just warm it on the stove again until it softens.
