Lincoln door panels need to be removed for a number of reasons. For instance, there are lights in the door panel that can only be accessed from behind the panel. When these lights fade or go out, the door panel must be removed to replace the lights. Door panels also have to be removed when installing features like keyless entry or a security system on your Lincoln.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large flat head screwdriver Phillips head screwdriver Allen wrench set
  1. Step 1

Remove a screw from the bottom center of the door panel with a Phillips head screwdriver.

  2. Step 2

Use a light to look up under the leather door strap and locate two hex bolts, one on the right and one of the left end of the strap. Use an Allen wrench to remove both hex bolts. Make sure the wrenches are the correct size so that the bolts don't become stripped. Pull the leather strap away from the door panel.

  3. Step 3

Remove the two Phillips screws located under each end of where the leather strap was. Pull the door handle lever and remove the Phillips head screw from behind it. The door panel is loose but can't be removed at this point.

  4. Step 4

Pry around the edges of the door panel with a long flat head screw driver. There are plastic clips holding the door panel to the door. Use the screwdriver to slowly pop the clips out of place. There are nine clips around the door panel, three on each of the two sides and three along the bottom.

  5. Step 5

Tilt the door panel away from the door and disconnect the wiring between the door and the light located in the door panel. Use a flat head screwdriver to slide the connector open.

  6. Step 6

Lift the door panel up (there is a lip at the top of the door holding it in place) and pull it away from the door. The door panel is now removed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a small container to hold all screws and small hardware in one place so that it can be used when reinstalling the door panel.
  • Never pull or jerk the door panel away from the door. Clips and hardware may be broken and not be usable again.
