If you want to create a custom ringtone for your cell phone you can create an instrumental multitrack MIDI ringtone. To create a MIDI ringtone you will need to use a MIDI mixing software that can create a ringtone format file. Anvil Studio is a Windows-based MIDI program that allows you to convert audio files to MIDI or create a MIDI file on your own. With Anvil Studio you can take the MIDI file and easily export it as a MIDI ringtone file.

    Making the Tone

  1. Step 1

Launch your Internet browser. Go to the Anvil Studio website (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

Open Anvil Studio on your computer. If you have an audio file that you want to convert to a MIDI ringtone, click on "File" and select "Open" to open that file in Anvil Studio. If you want to create a new MIDI ringtone from scratch you can do that from the main screen.

  3. Step 3

Locate the "Type" column. Double click on "Instrument" in that column to select the instrument you want to use as acoustic grand piano is the default.

  4. Step 4

Find and click on "Compose." This is located on the lower left of the screen and will open up the Composer screen. This screen will enable you to change or add notes to create the actual MIDI ringtone.

  5. Step 5

Click on "Add Sounds" to see the notes that you can select and click "OK." You can use the drop down menu by "Note" to set the number of beats the note will play. You can press "play" as you go along to test how your MIDI ringtone sounds. You can also see the length of it under "Duration." You can change instruments as many times as you like.

  6. Step 6

Select the "File" menu and then "Export MIDI Format." Select "Type 0 MIDI" as your file type and click "Export." Type 0 is the format for ringtones that is recognized by cell phones.
