How to Find a Location From an IP Address

An IP address is the Internet Protocol address that is assigned to every computer. This IP address is tied to a specific household, building or residence, and is used to send information over a network connection. Tracing the location of an IP address is easy with free online sites and tools. After entering your IP address, you will be provided with the city, state and country in which the connection originated.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Navigate to www.ipaddresslocation.org.

  2. Step 2

    Scroll down the page to "Enter an IP address for lookup..." Enter the IP address in the "IP Locater" text box. Click the "Look up" button.

  3. Step 3

    You will be presented with a map along with the city, region, country, and longitude and latitude of the supplied IP address.

Tips & Warnings
  • The tracking and tracing of IP addresses is not guaranteed to be 100 percent accurate. However, results have a high percentage record of being correct.
