How to Use a Digitech Whammy IV Pedal

  1. Step 1

Plug the power adapter into the plug-in on the back of your pedal and the plug in the adapter. Connect the whammy pedal to your guitar using a guitar cable by plugging one end of the cable into the "Audio In" plug-in on the pedal; then plug the other end into the cable plug-in on your guitar. Use a second guitar cable to plug one end into the "Audio Out" plug-in on the pedal and the other end to the "Audio In" plug-in on your amplifier.

  2. Step 2

Choose the harmony you want by moving the black knob in the effects box. A green light will appear on an octave choice as your turn the knob. Choose from nine different octaves, and press down on the pedal with your foot to play in that octave for the harmony effect.

  3. Step 3

Choose from the shallow or deep options in the detune effect, then press down on the pedal to play the detune effect. The detune effect causes the pitch and tempo to fade out while you are playing, which is best to use at the end of a song.

  4. Step 4

Choose the whammy octave that you want in the whammy section. You can also choose from two new presets: dive bomb, which is three octaves down; or drop tune, which is two semi-tones down. Press the pedal down with your foot to hear the sound of these newer presets.

  5. Step 5

Press on the metal button on the lower right-hand side of the pedal to switch between the presets of effects that you chose.
