Things You'll Need:
- Potato gun Potato Hair spray or carburetor cleaner Broomstick

Step 1
Push a potato down into the barrel of the gun with a long, sturdy pole, such as a broomstick. Don't jab or crush the potato. Use just enough force to get it where it needs to go.

Choose a combustion spray, such as carburetor cleaner or hair spray, for igniting the gun. Be sure you have enough to fill the chamber.

Open the chamber of the potato gun (it is usually in the back of the gun). This is where you will spray your combustible spray. To ignite the spray, you should have built in a barbecue striker or lighter. These lighters can be found at stores that sell camping and grilling equipment.

Spray the inside of the chamber for a few seconds. Close and seal the chamber as quickly as possible so the spray does not escape. Once you've fired your first potato you can adjust how much spray to use.

Find an open area where the potato can cause no harm or damage.

Hold the potato gun securely and brace yourself for the recoil. Light the striker or lighter to shoot the potato gun. If it misfires, check to see if there are leaks in the chamber that need to be sealed.
