How to Camp at Fort Wilderness
Since 1971, guests who want to stay at Walt Disney World have had the option of sleeping under the stars, rather than in a hotel room. At Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, guests can find all the comforts of a Walt Disney World hotel while still sleeping in the great outdoors. True to the ease and comfort of Walt Disney World resorts, staying at Fort Wilderness is an easy process.

1
Make reservations for camping at Fort Wilderness well in advance. While camping at Walt Disney World may seem odd to some, to others it would be strange to do anything else. Reserve a campsite by calling (407) W-Disney, or by visiting the Walt Disney World website.
-
2
Select the type of campsite that you and your family prefer. All four of the options include water, cable and electrical hook-ups, a grill, and a picnic table. The least expensive option is the tent/pop-up campsite. This type of site lacks the sewer hook-up that the other three have. The other three options, a full hook-up, a preferred hook-up site, and a premium campsite, all offer the previous amenities along with increasingly larger sites and better locations. RVs can be accommodated at any site other than the Tent/Pop-Up campsite.

3
Once in Orlando, follow the posted travel signs to the Fort Wilderness Resort and its check-in area.
-
4
Drive up to the check-in desk. Fort Wilderness is designed so that guests staying at one of the campsites can check in without getting out of their vehicle.
-
5
Receive your copy of the FW Gazette and your resort IDs. The FW Gazette is a newsletter-type package that each family receives containing a park map, camp information, and a recreation activity list. Each resort ID resembles a traditional credit card-shaped room key and has the guest's name printed on it. These prove that you are an official Walt Disney World Resort guest, and are essential for participating in Extra Magic Hours.
-
6
Follow the map back to your campsite. Depending on where your site is, you may have a lengthy drive. Even the most basic campsite provides enough amenities for a relaxing trip.

Tips & Warnings
Take the bus from any one of the many bus stops to reach different areas around the resort. These buses can take you to the front of the campground, where you can catch buses to other Walt Disney World locations, or to the rear of the campground, where you can catch a boat to the Magic Kingdom. Other recreational areas on-site include the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, The Settlement Trading Post, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue dinner show, the Trail's End buffet, and the Meadow Swimmin' Pool.
While there are two different places to pick up necessary supplies at Fort Wilderness, these trading posts tend to be expensive. Plan ahead and bring what you need, otherwise you'll be spending more than you had anticipated.
