How to Replace the DVD Drive in a Dell Inspiron 1501
The Dell Inspiron 1501 is a laptop computer that comes with a DVD drive. You may find several reasons to replace the DVD drive in this computer. For instance, the drive may have become non-functional, or you may wish to upgrade the drive to the latest and greatest model.

Turn off the laptop and ensure that it is removed from all power sources. This includes not only removing the electrical plug if it is installed, but also removing the battery.

Use a small flat-tipped screwdriver to slide the locking mechanism and release the DVD drive. Once released, the drive should pop out about a quarter of an inch.

Slide the DVD drive out from the laptop. Insert the new DVD drive and gently slide into place. It will go in only one way, so don't force it. Replace the screw in the locking mechanism to secure the new DVD drive.

Replace the battery and power-supply connections. Power up the laptop to confirm that it recognizes and installs the new DVD drive. If the new drive is different than the drive you removed, you will need to install the software drivers provided by the manufacturer for the new drive.
