Layered Hair Bow

Ribbon hair bows are a popular way to adorn little girls' hair. When hair is pulled back into pony tails, pig tails, or simply off of the face and held in place with a hair bow, the effect is stylish and pretty. One popular hair bow is a layered hair bow. This hair bow is created by layering ribbons of different widths and colors and then attaching them together to a barrette.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the ribbon lengths. Cut a 5" length from ribbons 1, 2, and 3. Cut an 8" length from ribbon 2. Cut a 2" length from ribbon 1. Cut a 10" length from ribbons 4 and 5.

    • 2

Notch the edges of each of the 5" ribbons. Set aside ribbons 2 and 3. Hot glue ribbon 1 to the top of the metal barrette and allow the glue to cool.

    • 3

Fold the 8" ribbon ends in to the center and fold the ribbon in half. Tightly wrap a 2"piece of wire around the center point of the ribbon to create a bow. Trim the excess wire. Set this bow aside until the end.

    • 4

Take both 10" ribbons and make them into horizontal figure-eight shapes. Stack one on top of the other and hot glue them together.

    • 5

Make an "X" out of the ribbons set aside in step 2 and hot glue them together where they cross. Hot glue the figure-eight ribbons on top of the "X" ribbons. Glue the tiny bow made in Step 3 on top of the figure-eight ribbons.

    • 6

Place the stack of layered ribbons on top of the ribbon glued to the metal barrette. Wrap a 4" length of craft wire around the layered ribbons several times tightly to attach it firmly to the metal barrette. Twist the wire and trim any excess.

    • 7

Place the 2" ribbon on top of the center of the bow and bring the ends around to the underside of the metal barrette. Glue the ends in place to finish the layered hair bow.
