Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Measuring tape Fusible interfacing Scissors Tie Seam ripper Iron Straight pins Sewing machine 1-inch clip closure Single-fold bias tape 1 -inch-wide D-ring
  1. Step 1

Measure around your dog's neck and add 7 inches. Measure and cut a piece of fusible interfacing 2 1/2 inches wide and the length of the neck measurement. Use the seam ripper to take the seams of the tie apart. Discard the label and the tie interfacing. Iron the tie flat, eliminating the fold and crease lines. Place the fusible interfacing glue-side down on the back side of the tie fabric and iron to adhere. Cut around the edges of the fusible interfacing and discard the excess tie fabric. There should be no excess tie fabric remaining around the outer edges of the interfacing.

  2. Step 2

Fold in the long edges of the rectangle strip 1/4 inch to the interfacing side and press. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, with the interfacing sides together and matching the folded edges. Press the strip. Pin the long edges together. Top stitch the long edges together as close to the pinned edge as possible. Top stitch on the opposite long side of the strip as close to the folded edge as possible.

  3. Step 3

Thread one end of the sewn strip through the clasp side of the clip closure. Turn the end over 1/4 inch and press. Fold the strip an additional inch with the clasp inside the fold and pin the short end to the collar. Sew across the strip on the pinned edge through all layers.

  4. Step 4

Cut a 2-inch piece of bias tape. Fold the tape in half lengthwise, press and pin. Top stitch the long edge as close to the pinned edge as possible. Thread the sewn bias tape through the D-ring. Fold the bias tape in half, matching the two short ends. Pin the short ends to the inside of the collar, centered halfway along its length and on the stitch line. Top stitch across the short ends to attach.

  5. Step 5

Thread the unsewn end of the collar through the other half of the clip closure. Place the collar on your dog and adjust the dog collar made from a tie to fit. The raw end of the collar should measure 3 inches past the clip closure. Cut away the excess. Turn the raw edge 1/4 inch to the inside of the collar and pin. Top stitch along the pinned edge.
