Things You'll Need:
- Two climbing ropes Properly built anchor
-
Step 1
Flake out each rope so that they will be easy to coil for throwing the rope back down the cliff. Take the end of one rope and slide it through the anchor.
-
Step 2
Pull a little rope through the anchor, then grab the end of the second rope and line up the ropes so one lies on top of the other. You'll want about a foot for each end of rope.
-
Step 3
Tie a double overhand knot around one rope. Wrap the top rope around the other rope, cross it back over both ropes and pull it behind, then slide the end through the loop and pull it tight.
-
Step 4
Flip the ropes so that the rope that has the knot is now on the bottom and tie another double overhand knot. Pull the two ropes together so the two double overhands push against each other.
-
Step 5
Take the free ends of each rope and either tie them together with a loose figure-8 follow-through knot, or tie a double overhand at the end of each rope. This is to help remind the climber not to rappel off the ends of the rope when doing multiple rappels down a cliff. Coil the ropes loosely around your arm in loops, then throw the rope out and down the cliff, yelling "ROPE!" as you do so to warn any climbers who might be below.
