Hockey Trick

Hockey is a game of grit and determination, but fans also appreciate its speed and artistry. Highly skilled players can do some amazing tricks with the puck, especially during practice or warmups for a game. Try these steps and you may be able to do them, too.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the puck on the blade of your stick, with the stick horizontal and facing up. In a smooth, rolling motion, turn the stick face down, then back up again (see "Puck Trick" in "references," below). Do this repeatedly and the puck will roll with the stick and stay on it when you turn it over.

    • 2

Drag the puck behind your body as you skate and and use the toe of your stick to put the puck between your skates. Kick the pick in front of you and pick it up with your stick.

    • 3

Use the heel of your stick to flip the puck into the air, then use the stick to catch it and keep it from hitting the ground. To do this repeatedly you must have good hand-eye coordination. You may remember this trick from the Disney movie, "D2: The Mighty Ducks."

    • 4

Place the stick blade over the puck, face down. With a quick twist of the wrist, slide the blade under the puck, pick it up and carry it on the blade. You may have seen a University of Michigan player doing this to score a goal several years ago (see "Michigan Goal" in "additional resources" below).

Tips & Warnings

  • None of these tricks is easy. You'll need to practice them often to do them well.

  • Be careful with your stick--someone could get hurt.
