Things You'll Need:
- Pizza dough Rolling pin Filling (meats, vegetables, cheese, sauce) Fork Baking pan
-
Step 1
Select your favorite pizza dough recipe for the calzone. You can use thawed frozen dough or even biscuit dough if you prefer, although a good yeast recipe does enhance the flavor of traditional pizza sauce and cheese.
-
Step 2
Roll the dough into 6-inch circles. Place dough between two pieces of waxed paper and use a rolling pin to roll the dough into circles. The waxed paper keeps the dough from sticking to the rolling pin.
-
Step 3
Envision an imaginary line bisecting the circle. Add toppings to one side. Fill to within ¾ inch from the outside rim.
-
Step 4
Fold the unfilled side over the top of the filled side so the that the edges match up. Crimp the two sections with a fork to create a seal around the edge of the calzone.
-
Step 5
Let rise in a warm draft-free area for ½ an hour. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 20 to 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Variations in oven temperature, the type of filling used and type of dough may alter cooking time.
