1
Remove all of the items from the freezer and place them in an ice chest or portable cooler while you work. Alternatively, place the items into another freezer if one is available. Once the food has been removed, unplug the freezer.
-
2
Remove the storage bins from your freezer and place them into a sink filled with warm, soapy water. These may be plastic drawers or wire baskets, depending on your particular freezer model.

-
3
Wash the storage bins thoroughly and then rinse them in cool water. Use an old toothbrush, if necessary, to clean along the seams and in the corners. Leave the clean bins inverted on the counter to dry.

4
Wipe down the inside of the freezer with a damp kitchen sponge, taking care to mop up any excess water. If any ice has built up on the inside surfaces of your freezer, you will have to let them thaw. Attempting to manually remove the ice can damage the freezer, it is best to let the ice melt naturally. If you need to speed up the thawing process, leave the door open and set a small heater nearby.

5
Wash the freezer with warm, soapy water once all the ice has been removed. Sponge down the cleaned interior with clear water three to five times to remove all traces of soap. Dry with an old towel to help prevent an excessive buildup of ice.

6
Replace the storage bins, turn the freezer back on and allow it to return to the correct operating temperature before refilling the bins with food.

Tips & Warnings
Place ice cubes into the ice chest with your frozen food to help keep it in its frozen state. As you remove the food from the freezer check the quality and date of each item, discarding any that have been stored for too long. Put a new box of baking soda into your clean freezer to help absorb odors and keep frozen foods from developing an "off" taste.
