Block extra sunlight coming through the windows. Sunlight is great for plants and cutting down on the light bill, but right now the sun is heating up the house. Completely cover as much light as we can from the windows.
Tinfoil is a great way to block extra light. Tinfoil is very useful on window that may want to be open to bring in a cool breeze. Simply place the tinfoil on the window and not the frame of the window. Use tape to hold the tinfoil in place. Now the window is able to be open to let a breeze in and will block the light of the unopened part of the window.

Put up room darkening or block out curtains on all windows. Room darkening curtains will keep the house dark, but cool. They can be found at virtually every department store.

Do not cook on stove tops or in the oven. The stove and oven give off lots of heat. If something must be warmed up, use a microwave. A microwave will still give off heat, but much less than a stove or oven.

Use fans to circulate the air. Running ceiling fans and floor fans will give a cooling breeze. Turn on all fans. Place a fan in an open window to help bring in a cool breeze if possible. If there is no breeze outside close the windows and use just the fans. The home will be cooler without the sun and hot air from the outside.
