Step 1
One of the greatest things you can do to prevent carjacking is by alert at places where carjackings can take place. These include places such as sitting at a red light, hotels, ATM's, parking lots, shopping centers, car washes, drive-through at fast restaurants, and valet parkings.
-
Step 2
Next, make sure that your windows are rolled up and that you locked your car doors, especially when you are stopped at a red light for a long period of time.
-
Step 3
When stopping in front of a car, make sure to leave some space to escape. You never know when a carjacker might appear and try to steal your car.
-
Step 4
When it comes to parking, park near a well-lit area and avoid remote areas.
-
Step 5
If your car breaks down and someone willingly comes to offer you to help, don't simply just open your door and let welcome them. It is better to be safe than sorry. Call your insurance company or local tow service.
-
Step 6
Beware of fender benders. In other words, don't fall for the "bump and rob." If someone intentionally hits your car as a way to get you out of your car, simply note their license plate and call the cops. Many of carjacking schemes include coaxing the driver to get out of their car.
-
Step 7
Lastly, if you are faced with a carjacker, don't fight them. Your life is not worth risking, not matter how fancy it is.
